Melonex 500 mg: What the Number Means Next to Gram-Dose Studies
The 500 mg on the Melonex label is the combined weight of all three named amino acids in one capsule, not the amount of each. Studies of these amino acids usually used 3 to 9 grams a day, so one capsule holds a small fraction of a studied dose.

What does 500 mg mean on the Melonex label?
It is the weight of the whole blend in one capsule. L-Citrulline dl-Malate, L-Arginine (Alpha-Ketoglutarate dihydrate) and L-Arginine HCL share that 500 mg between them.
The Supplement Facts panel prints one line: Proprietary Blend, 500 mg, Daily Value not established. The three names sit under it in descending order of weight. The split between them is not printed, and federal rules let a blend skip per-ingredient amounts 1.
So the number cannot tell you how much citrulline you get. It can only tell you the top of the range. Our Supplement Facts page shows the panel line by line.
How much of the 500 mg can each name be?
The order rule sets a ceiling and a floor for each name, even though exact amounts are hidden.
| Name on label | Position | Possible range per capsule | Printed amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| L-Citrulline dl-Malate | First | At least 167 mg, up to 500 mg less the others | Not published |
| L-Arginine (Alpha-Ketoglutarate dihydrate) | Second | Up to 250 mg | Not published |
| L-Arginine HCL | Third | Up to 167 mg | Not published |
The math is simple. Three names must add up to 500 mg, and each later name cannot weigh more than the one before it. The first therefore weighs at least a third of the total. These are limits from the rule, not facts about this bottle.
How does one capsule compare with study doses?
It is small. The trials we found used grams, and one capsule is half a gram in total.
Label vs studies
A review of L-citrulline trials covered doses of 3 to 9 grams a day 2. A review of oral L-arginine found its blood pressure effect in studies at 4 grams a day or more 3. Those are results for the single amino acid, not for a blend, and not for this product.
What would it take to reach a studied amount?
Many capsules, and the label does not allow that. It says 1 capsule a day, and up to 2 a day.
One capsule
500 mg for all three names combined.
Two capsules
1,000 mg, which is 1 gram, the most the label permits in a day.
A 4 g study dose
That equals 8 capsules of total blend, and the label tells you not to exceed the dose.
Put differently, even if every milligram were citrulline, a day at the label maximum would sit well below the low end of the studied range. That is not proof that the product does nothing. It means the trial results do not carry over to it.

FAQ01
Melonex questions people ask
Is 500 mg the amount of citrulline in each Melonex capsule?
No. The 500 mg is the total of three ingredients, and the split is not printed on the label.
How many milligrams are in a gram?
There are 1,000 milligrams in a gram, so one capsule holds half a gram of blend.
Does taking two capsules double the 500 mg?
Yes, two capsules give 1,000 mg of blend, which is the most the label allows in a day.
Can a small dose still matter?
It may, but no published study tested this blend, so we cannot say. Ask your pharmacist about your own case.
