Melonex Natural Formula: What the Word "Natural" Does and Does Not Mean
"Natural Formula" is a starred line on the Melonex front label. It is a marketing phrase, not a tested grade. FDA says the word natural does not always mean safe, and it says nothing about strength, purity or how well a product works.

Does a natural formula mean a safer capsule?
No. Natural describes where a thing came from, or how a seller wants it to feel. It does not describe dose, purity or safety.
FDA's own consumer page puts it plainly: the term natural does not always mean safe 1. Poison ivy is natural. So is a plant that can raise blood pressure. Some supplements named by NHLBI, such as bitter orange and licorice root, are natural and may raise blood pressure 2.
What does the Melonex label actually say?
The front shows three starred lines. "Natural Formula*" is the third. The star leads to the FDA statement.
| Where | Words used | What backs it up |
|---|---|---|
| Front label | "Natural Formula*" | No definition printed |
| Sales site | "100% natural" | No test shown on the pages we read 3 |
| Supplement Facts | Three named amino acids | Amounts not printed |
Notice the gap between "100% natural" and a panel that does not give the amount of any ingredient. Both can be true or false, and the pages give you no way to check.
Are the ingredients themselves natural?
Partly, in the sense that amino acids occur in food and in the body. How the powders are made is not stated.
- 1L- Citrulline dl - Malate167 mg or more of the 500 mg blend
- 2L-Arginine (Alpha-Ketoglutarate dihydrate)under 250 mg of the 500 mg blend
- 3L - Arginine HCLunder 167 mg of the 500 mg blend
From the Supplement Facts panel, in label order. The label prints 500 mg for the whole Proprietary Blend and no amount for any name, so the limits shown come from the order alone. Other ingredients (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose capsule, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate) are not part of the blend.
Amino acids used in capsules are often made by fermentation or in a factory. The "DL" in L-Citrulline dl-Malate points to a mix of two mirror forms of malic acid, which is usually made rather than squeezed from fruit. We do not say that to mark the product down. We say it because the word natural cannot settle the matter.
What should you check in place of the word natural?
Check the facts that can be verified: amounts, lot, lab report, and who you are buying from.
Amounts
Ask for milligrams per capsule for each of the three names.
Lot and report
Match the lot number on your bottle to a lab report. The seller lists M-26/ME-3540, but that is the seller's own reference.

A claim that describes how a supplement affects the body needs support the company can show, and the FDA statement must appear 5.
The statement reads that the claim has not been evaluated by FDA, and that the product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. That is why the stars on the label matter. Read more on the testing and quality page.

FAQ01
Melonex questions people ask
Is Melonex 100% natural?
That is the sales site's wording. We found no test or definition behind it, and the label does not say it.
Does natural mean no side effects?
No. Natural products can cause side effects and interact with medicines. Ask your pharmacist.
Are lab-made amino acids unnatural?
Not necessarily. The molecule is the same, but the label should say how it is made, and Melonex does not.
Does the star next to Natural Formula matter?
Yes. It points to the FDA statement that the line has not been evaluated by FDA.
